What is Account Editor?

Account Editor is a Shopify app that lets customers fix their own orders after checkout. They can change items, correct a delivery address, cancel, request a return, or download an invoice — from their order page, without emailing you. Every change is written straight into Shopify, so your orders stay correct.

The problem it solves

Customers make mistakes at checkout. Wrong size. Wrong address. Forgot an item. Changed their mind.

Each one becomes an email. You read it, open Shopify, make the change, reply. A few minutes each, all day long.

Some mistakes cost more than time. A wrong address means you pay to send the parcel, pay to get it back, and usually refund them too.

Account Editor lets customers fix it themselves, inside a window you control.

What customers can do

  • Change quantities, add, remove or swap items — "Can you change my order?"
  • Correct their delivery address — A failed delivery
  • Choose a different shipping method — "Can I upgrade to next day?"
  • Cancel before it ships — A chargeback
  • Request a return or exchange — Three emails per return
  • Download an invoice — "Can you send me an invoice?"
  • Message you, with the order attached — "Which order do you mean?"

What you control

You decide everything about what customers may do:

  • How long they get — from 15 minutes to a month, or until the order ships
  • What they can change — each action has its own switch
  • Which orders — block by tag, by fraud risk, or by payment status
  • What happens to the money — refunds automatic or held, fees kept or waived

Nothing is on until you turn it on. A fresh install does nothing.

The safety net

Editing always stops when an order is fulfilled. Whatever window you set, a customer can never change an order that has shipped.

So you can be generous with the window. The risk is not a customer editing a shipped parcel. It is your warehouse packing a box before the window closes. That is what order holds and the 3PL guides are for.

It also makes money

Beyond saving support time, Account Editor can add revenue:

  • Upsell offers after checkout, when the customer has already decided to buy
  • Store credit instead of refunds, so returned money stays with you
  • Retention offers shown when someone starts a cancellation or a return

How it works

Account Editor runs on pages Shopify controls. The Thank you page, the Order status page, and customer account pages. It is not part of your theme, so it cannot break your storefront.

Two things are needed for a feature to work:

  1. The setting, switched on inside the app
  2. The app block, added to the page customers see

You need both. A feature can be fully set up and still invisible, because the block was never placed. That is the most common setup mistake.

What it costs

Plans differ by how many orders you process each month, not by which features you get. Every plan includes every feature. See Plans, order limits and credits.

Good to know

Everything ships off. You choose what customers can do, one feature at a time.

Every change goes into Shopify. There is no separate copy of your orders. What the customer changes is what your Shopify order says.

Fulfilled means final. Once an order ships, editing stops.

It does not replace your Shopify emails. Your order confirmation and shipping emails stay as they are.

FAQ

What does Account Editor actually do?

It lets customers change their own Shopify orders after checkout. Items, address, shipping method. They can also cancel, return, or download an invoice. You set the time window. Changes go straight into Shopify.

Will customers break my orders?

No. You choose what they may change. Every change is priced and checked. Adding items means paying more, and the order only updates once the payment works.

Can customers edit an order after it ships?

No. Once an order ships, editing stops for good. Your settings cannot override that.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. Only checkout-page features need Plus. Order editing, cancellations, returns, invoices and offers all work on any Shopify plan.

How long does setup take?

About ten minutes to get order editing live — three screens of setup, then one app block.

Does it work with my theme?

It does not run in your theme, so your theme cannot affect it. It uses pages Shopify controls.

What happens if I uninstall it?

It stops working and its blocks disappear. Your Shopify orders are untouched, because every change it made was made in Shopify itself.
