Install Account Editor

Install Account Editor from the Shopify App Store and it opens a short setup: choose how long customers can edit an order, then pick your features. After that you add one app block so customers can see it. Nothing is switched on until you choose it.

What this does

Installing puts Account Editor in your Shopify admin. Setup asks the one question the product needs — how long customers get to edit — and then gets out of the way.

Before you start

  • You can install apps on your Shopify store
  • You can edit your checkout and customer account pages

Install and set up

  1. Install Account Editor from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Approve the permissions. Account Editor needs to read and edit orders.
  3. Setup opens automatically.

Screen 1 — Welcome

Explains what the app does, with a Watch a 60-second demo option. Select Get started, or Skip and go to dashboard to set up later.

Screen 2 — Editing window

How long customers can change an order after checkout. Pick a tile:

  • 15 minutes · 30 minutes · 60 minutes · 6 hours · 12 hours · 24 hours · 3 days · 1 month · CustomUntil order is in progress · Until order is fulfilled

60 minutes suits most stores — customers usually spot a mistake within minutes.

A summary underneath spells out your choice in plain words, and a timeline shows where editing closes against fulfillment. Change it later under Settings → Editing window.

Screen 3 — Features

Everything ships turned off. Turn on what you want customers to do. You can add more any time from Features.

Make it live

Setup doesn't finish the job. Customers see nothing until the app block is on the page.

  1. On your dashboard, find the Setup guide.
  2. If the heading says "Account Editor isn't live yet", work through the remaining steps.
  3. Select Add app block. Shopify's editor opens.
  4. In the Apps panel, find Account Editor, add the Order editing block, and save.

The heading changes to "Account Editor is live" on its own. See Add Account Editor blocks to your store.

What your customers see

Customers open their order from the confirmation email and see the Account Editor panel with the options you turned on, plus how long they have left.

Check it without a test order: Features → Preview order page.

Good to know

Everything ships off. A fresh install does nothing until you turn features on. This is deliberate — you decide what customers may change.

Installing isn't enough, and neither is setup. The app block is what makes the app visible. Skipping it is the single most common reason a new install looks broken.

Fulfilled orders are always locked. However long your window, a customer can never edit an order that has shipped. Pick a length that suits your customers, not one you hope is safe.

You need a plan. Without one, feature pages are read-only. Start the free trial from Pricing.

Troubleshooting

  • Setup didn't open — Why: It was skipped, or you'd installed before — Fix: Everything is on the dashboard's setup guide
  • Select a plan to turn on Account Editor — Why: No plan yet — Fix: Select Start free trial
  • Feature pages are greyed out — Why: No plan — Fix: Choose one under Pricing
  • Customers can't see anything — Why: The app block isn't added — Fix: Use Add app block on the setup guide
  • Account Editor isn't live yet won't clear — Why: A step is still open — Fix: The remaining step tells you what's missing

FAQ

How long does setup take?

Under ten minutes. Setup itself is three screens and about three minutes; adding the app block takes a few more.

Do I have to pick a plan straight away?

You need one before features work, but every plan has a free trial. Feature pages stay read-only until you choose.

Can I change the editing window later?

Yes, any time under Settings → Editing window. The choice during setup is just a starting point.

What permissions does it need?

Reading and editing orders, and reading customers. Editing orders on your customers' behalf is what the app does, so it can't work without them.

What happens if I uninstall?

Account Editor stops working and its blocks disappear. Your Shopify orders are untouched — every change it made was made in Shopify.
