Add Account Editor to the Thank you page

The Thank you page is shown once, right after payment, while customers are still paying attention. Eight Account Editor blocks can go here — order editing, offers, surveys and a countdown. Add them in Shopify's checkout and customer accounts editor, the same way as anywhere else.

What this does

This is the highest-attention moment you get. The customer has just bought, they're pleased, and they haven't closed the tab.

It's the best place for an offer, and a good place to tell people they can still change their order — before they wander off and email you instead.

What you can put here

  • Order editing — The all-in-one panel — customers can change the order straight away
  • Editing window timer — A countdown showing how long they have left
  • Countdown announcement — The same countdown, in the strip at the top of the page
  • Upsell — A product offer
  • Free shipping upsell — An offer to reach free shipping
  • Post-purchase discount — Apply a discount code
  • Post-purchase survey — Ask a few questions
  • EU withdrawal form — Withdraw from the purchase under EU rules

How to add a block

  1. In Account Editor, go to Features.
  2. Select Add app block. Shopify's editor opens.
  3. Switch to the Thank you page.
  4. In the Apps panel, find Account Editor and add the block.
  5. Select Save.

The two countdowns

Two blocks show the time left to edit, and they look quite different:

  • Editing window timer — A block in the page body, wherever you place it
  • Countdown announcement — The strip across the top of the page, above everything else

The announcement is harder to miss and turns red as the time runs out. The timer sits with the rest of your content and is calmer. Use one, not both.

Neither needs its own setting — both follow the editing window in Settings → Editing window.

Wording the editing message

The Order editing block lets you reword the message above the options, or hide it, from Shopify's editor. You can also point Contact support at your own helpdesk instead of the built-in form. See The Order status page for what each setting does — they're the same block on both pages.

What your customers see

Right after paying, customers see whatever you've added — a panel to change the order, a countdown, an offer, or a short survey.

Check it without a test order: Features → Preview order page.

Good to know

Set up the Order status page first. The Thank you page is shown once and never again. If a customer closes the tab, everything you put here is gone. The Order status page is the one they come back to. See The Order status page.

Add blocks to both pages. They're separate placements. A block on the Thank you page does not appear on the Order status page, and the other way round.

An upsell offer only runs where its block is. The Upsell block goes on three different pages. An offer set to run on the Thank you page won't show if the block is only on the Order status page — even though the block is on your store.

Don't crowd it. An offer, a countdown, a survey and an editing panel at once is a lot to land on. Pick the one or two that matter to you.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing appears after checkout — Why: No block on the Thank you page — Fix: Add it — the Order status page is a separate placement
  • An offer doesn't show — Why: The offer runs on a different page — Fix: Add the Upsell block to the page the offer is set to
  • The countdown shows the wrong time — Why: It follows your editing window setting — Fix: Check Settings → Editing window
  • It shows for some orders only — Why: The offer or feature has conditions — Fix: Check the offer's targeting, or the feature's restrictions
  • Customers say they never saw it — Why: They closed the tab — Fix: Expected. Use the Order status page and the confirmation email.

FAQ

Should I use the Thank you page or the Order status page?

Both, for different jobs. Thank you is for the moment of attention, so it suits offers. Order status is where customers return when they spot a mistake, so it suits editing. If you only do one, do Order status.

Why does my upsell show on one page and not the other?

Offers are set to a page, and the block has to be on that same page. Both have to line up before the offer appears.

Can customers get back to this page later?

No. The Thank you page is shown once. Their order confirmation email takes them to the Order status page instead.

Does this need Shopify Plus?

No. Thank you page blocks work on every plan. Only checkout blocks need Plus.
