Show the edit deadline in your order confirmation email
Most customers never revisit their order page, so they never learn they can fix a mistake themselves. Account Editor gives you a snippet to paste into your Shopify order confirmation email. It adds a countdown and an Edit your order button to the one email everybody opens.
What this does
You can set up order editing perfectly and see almost no use. Not because customers do not want it — because they never find it.
The confirmation email is the only message every customer opens. Putting the deadline there is the biggest single thing you can do to get the feature used.
Before you start
- Your editing window is set
- The Account Editor app block is on your Order status page
- You can edit email templates in Shopify
Add the snippet
- Go to Settings → Editing window.
- Find Order confirmation email.
- Select Copy snippet.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Notifications → Order confirmation.
- Paste the code after line 215 of the template.
- Save.
Send yourself a test order to check it looks right.
What customers see
A line in the email:
Under it, an Edit your order button that opens their order page.
The time matches your setting and updates itself. Change your window later and the email follows — there is nothing to redo.
If your window is Until order is fulfilled or Until order is in progress, there is no countdown. Customers see a message saying they can edit until then.
Good to know
Paste it once. The snippet reads your current setting, so it never goes stale.
Line 215 is the default template. If yours has been customised, that line number will not match. Put it after the order summary and before the footer.
Test before you rely on it. Place a real test order and read the email you get. A snippet in the wrong place can break the layout on mobile.
This is the highest-leverage change on the page. Everything else adjusts how editing works. This one decides whether customers know it exists.
Troubleshooting
- The snippet does not appear in the email — Why: Pasted in the wrong place, or not saved — Fix: Re-paste after the order summary, then save
- The countdown shows the wrong time — Why: It reads your editing window — Fix: Check Settings → Editing window
- No countdown, just text — Why: Your window is a fulfillment option — Fix: Expected — those have no clock
- The button goes nowhere useful — Why: The app block is missing from the Order status page — Fix: Add it from the Features banner
- The email layout broke — Why: The snippet landed inside another block — Fix: Undo, then paste between blocks
- Copy does not work — Why: The browser blocked it — Fix: Select the code and copy it by hand
FAQ
Where exactly does the snippet go?
After line 215 of Shopify's default order confirmation template. If yours is customised, put it after the order summary and before the footer.
Do I need to update it when I change my editing window?
No. It reads your current setting each time an email is sent.
Will it work with my custom email template?
Usually. Paste it between existing blocks rather than inside one. Send a test order and check it on a phone.
Can I change the wording?
Not in the snippet itself. You can reword the message shown on the order page — that setting is on the Order editing block in Shopify's editor.
Does this work for other emails?
The snippet is built for the order confirmation. Account Editor also sends its own emails about order changes, which you set up under Features → Emails.
