Store-wide settings
Settings → General holds the switches that affect everything. The master on/off for the whole app, testing mode, and what happens when an edit leaves a customer owing money. Three settings, all of them store-wide.
The three tabs
Settings has three tabs, and it helps to know what lives where:
- General — App status, testing mode, automatic redirection
- Editing window — How long customers can edit, and smart window
- Editing restrictions — Which orders can be edited at all
App status
The master switch. Turning it off stops order editing across your whole store, with every other setting untouched.
It is a save-bar setting. Flipping the toggle is not enough — select Save.
Use it if something is going wrong and you want everything off while you work out what. Turning it back on restores your settings exactly as they were.
Testing mode
Shows Account Editor only to customers you choose, so you can try things on your live store privately.
Full detail: Test on a live store safely.
Automatic redirection
Send customers to checkout when a payment is due.
If an edit leaves a customer owing money, this sends them straight to the payment page rather than leaving them to find it.
It needs the Pending payment alert app block. The app warns you if it is missing. Without the block, customers who owe money see nothing telling them so.
Turn it on if customers can add items. Otherwise you will collect unpaid additions and chase them yourself.
Good to know
App status off looks identical to a broken install. So does testing mode. If customers report the app has stopped, check both before anything else.
Every change here is store-wide. These are not per-feature settings. To change one feature's behaviour, open that feature.
Changes are logged. Account Editor keeps an activity log of setting changes, with who made them. Useful when something changes and nobody remembers doing it.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing works for anyone — Why: App status is off — Fix: Turn it on and select Save
- Only some customers see the app — Why: Testing mode is on — Fix: Check the customer list
- A toggle did not stick — Why: The save bar was not used — Fix: Select Save
- Customers owe money and do not pay — Why: Automatic redirection is off, or its block is missing — Fix: Turn it on, and add the Pending payment alert block
- A setting changed by itself — Why: Someone else changed it — Fix: Check the activity log
- Editing restrictions are missing — Why: They are on their own tab — Fix: Settings → Editing restrictions
FAQ
How do I turn Account Editor off completely?
Settings → General → App status, then Save. Your settings are kept, and turning it back on restores everything.
Why did a toggle not save?
Most settings here are save-bar settings. Flipping the toggle stages the change; Save applies it.
What does automatic redirection do?
Sends customers straight to the payment page when an edit leaves them owing money. It needs the Pending payment alert app block.
Can I see who changed a setting?
Yes. Account Editor keeps an activity log of changes.
Where is the editing window?
On its own tab, Settings → Editing window.
