Send upsell offers by email

An email offer is a product card you paste into your own email campaigns. Build it under Upsell → Create offer with the Email placement, copy the snippet, and paste it into your email tool. Customers who click get the product with your discount already applied.

This one needs theme setup, unlike every other placement. Read that section before you send anything.

What this does

Your email tool can show products. What it cannot do is carry a discount through to checkout without the customer typing a code.

This does — the offer and its discount travel with the link.

Build one

  1. Go to Upsell → Create offer.
  2. Choose Email as the placement.
  3. Pick your products and write the copy.
  4. Choose what the button does:

  • Add to cart and go to checkout — Straight to checkout — recommended
  • Add to cart and go to the cart page — Into the cart
  • Open the product details page — To the product page

  1. Publish, then select Get email snippet.
  2. Choose your Email platform, check the preview, and Copy the HTML.
  3. Paste it into your email campaign.

The preview uses sample images. Real emails load your live product images.

The theme setup

Email offers are the only placement that touches your theme.

  1. Turn on the Email upsell app embed in your theme.
  2. Add the Email upsell banner block to your product template.

This shows the discount banner on the product page and applies the discount at checkout. The app gives you buttons to open both.

Without it the discount will not apply. Customers arrive at the product and pay full price.

Good to know

Editing an offer breaks links already sent. This is the important one. Saving a change cancels every link in emails already out — customers clicking an old one see an expired page. After any change, copy the new snippet and replace it everywhere you used it.

So: finish the offer, then send the campaign. Not the other way round.

No app block on a page. Email offers need the theme embed instead, which is why the setup is different.

Sample images in the preview are normal. Live emails pull your real product images.

Add to cart and go to checkout converts best. Every extra step loses people.

Troubleshooting

  • Links say the offer expired — Why: The offer was edited after sending — Fix: Copy the new snippet and replace the old one
  • The discount does not apply — Why: The theme embed or banner block is missing — Fix: Turn on the embed and add the block
  • No banner on the product page — Why: The Email upsell banner block is not on the product template — Fix: Add it
  • The snippet will not paste properly — Why: Your email tool strips HTML — Fix: Use its raw HTML or custom code block
  • Images are wrong in the preview — Why: Preview uses samples — Fix: Send a test email to check
  • The offer shows to everyone — Why: Email offers reach whoever you email — Fix: Segment in your email tool

FAQ

How is this different from other upsell placements?

Others appear on a page in your store. This is a product card inside your own email campaigns, and it carries the discount through to checkout.

The offer was edited after the emails went out. Saving a change cancels the old links. Copy the new snippet and replace it.

Do I need to change my theme?

Yes, for this placement only. Turn on the Email upsell app embed and add the banner block to your product template.

Which button action should I use?

Add to cart and go to checkout. Fewest steps, best conversion.

Which email tools work?

Pick your platform when you get the snippet, and paste the HTML into a raw HTML block.
