Show a free shipping offer
A free shipping offer shows customers how close they are to your threshold, and what they could add to reach it. Build one under Upsell → Create offer, choosing the Free-shipping upsell placement. It needs the Free shipping app block on the page.
What this does
"Spend $8 more for free shipping" is one of the few offers customers thank you for. They were going to pay for delivery anyway; now they get a product instead.
Build one
- Go to Upsell → Create offer.
- Choose Free-shipping upsell as the placement.
- Choose where it appears — Checkout, After checkout, Thank you, or Order status.
- Set your Free shipping type.
- Write the Progress message customers see.
- Publish.
Then add the Free shipping app block to the page you chose.
The three threshold types
- Use global free shipping tiers — Follows the thresholds set store-wide
- Set your own amounts for this offer — This offer uses its own threshold
- Add a selected item to get free shipping — Adding a specific product unlocks it
Global tiers keep everything consistent, and one change updates every offer.
Your own amounts suit a campaign that should not disturb your normal threshold.
A selected item is a different tactic — it moves specific stock rather than raising order value.
Different thresholds per market
Set Market-based settings to Specific markets and give each market its own threshold and currency amount.
Do this if you sell internationally. A threshold that makes sense at home can be trivially low or impossibly high elsewhere once converted.
Good to know
The threshold has to be reachable. If it is far above your average order, customers see a message they will ignore. Somewhere near your average order value works best.
Free shipping is not free. You pay the delivery. Make sure the extra spend covers it.
It needs its own app block. The Upsell block does not carry it — Free shipping is separate.
The progress message is the whole offer. "Spend $8 more for free shipping" works because it names the number. Vague wording does not.
Troubleshooting
- The offer never shows — Why: The Free shipping app block is missing — Fix: Add it to the offer's page
- It shows on the wrong page — Why: Placement and block do not match — Fix: Both must be on the same page
- Customers never reach the threshold — Why: It is too far above your average order — Fix: Lower it
- The wrong amount shows abroad — Why: No market-specific threshold set — Fix: Use Specific markets
- It shows when shipping is already free — Why: The order already qualifies — Fix: Expected
- Nothing changes when items are added — Why: The offer is not recalculating — Fix: Check the threshold type
FAQ
Where should I set my threshold?
A little above your average order value. Far enough to lift the order, close enough that customers try.
Can I have different thresholds by country?
Yes. Use Specific markets and set a threshold per market.
Does it need its own app block?
Yes. Free shipping is separate from the Upsell block.
What is the "selected item" option?
Adding a particular product unlocks free shipping. Useful for moving specific stock rather than raising order value.
Will customers game it?
Some will add a cheap item to qualify. That is the deal working — you set the threshold.
