Review and fix flagged addresses

Address checking flags orders it cannot deliver to. They collect under Features → Address validation → Flagged orders, each with the original address and a suggested one side by side. Apply a suggestion to one order, or select several and fix them together.

What this does

Flagging an order is only half a feature. Somebody still has to correct the address, and doing that by hand in Shopify is slow.

This queue is where checking turns into a fix.

Work the queue

  1. Go to Features → Address validation.
  2. Open the Flagged orders tab.
  3. Compare Original against Suggested for each row.
  4. Select Apply suggestion to write the corrected address to the order.

To fix several at once, tick the rows and use Apply to selected orders.

Rows whose suggestion is the same as the original cannot be selected, and the reason is shown. There is nothing to apply.

Held orders

If you turned on Hold orders with undeliverable addresses, flagged orders carry an On hold badge and will not ship.

Applying the suggestion clears the problem. The hold releases and the order carries on.

A held order nobody reviews never ships. If you use holds, someone has to work this queue.

Good to know

Read the suggestion before applying it. Most are obviously right — a missing postcode, a misspelled street. Some are not. Applying a wrong suggestion sends the parcel somewhere else entirely.

The original is kept. The customer's address is recorded as it was at validation time, so you can always see what they typed.

Bulk apply is for obvious fixes. Where the suggestion only adds a postcode or corrects spelling, batching is safe. Where it changes the street or the city, check each one.

This queue only fills if checking is on. An empty queue with checking off means nothing is being checked — see Check addresses automatically.

Troubleshooting

  • The queue is always empty — Why: Address checking is off, or a skip rule is too broad — Fix: Check both
  • A row cannot be selected — Why: The suggestion matches the original — Fix: Nothing to apply
  • Applying did not release the hold — Why: Another feature still needs the order held — Fix: Read the hold reason in Shopify
  • Good addresses keep appearing — Why: A quality rule is too strict — Fix: Loosen character rules or limits
  • The suggestion looks wrong — Why: Google could not resolve the address confidently — Fix: Contact the customer instead of guessing
  • Orders are stuck on hold — Why: Nobody is working the queue — Fix: Assign it, or turn holds off

FAQ

What happens when I apply a suggestion?

The corrected address is written to the Shopify order. If the order was held for a bad address, that hold clears.

Is the customer told?

No. Applying a suggestion changes the order without notifying them. Contact them yourself if the change is significant.

Can I fix several at once?

Yes. Tick the rows and use Apply to selected orders. Best for small corrections like a missing postcode.

What if the suggestion is wrong?

Do not apply it. Contact the customer and ask. A wrong suggestion applied is worse than a flagged order left alone.

Why is an order still held after I fixed it?

Another feature may still need it held — an editing window, or a cancellation under review. Shopify allows one hold per order.
