Address edits

This feature allows customers to update their shipping address after placing an order

Updated over a week ago

Helping prevent delivery issues and support requests. You can enable or disable this option based on your fulfillment process.

Enable Shipping Address Editing

When this feature is enabled, customers can update their shipping address after placing an order—directly from their Thank-You page, Order-Status page, or Customer Account area.

For example: If a customer realizes they entered the wrong street name or moved to a new address before the order is shipped, they can quickly correct it without contacting support. This ensures orders arrive at the correct location and reduces costly delivery issues.

  • When checked: Customers will see an option to edit their shipping address within their order details page.

Any updates are applied immediately to the order in your system.

  • When unchecked:Customers will not be able to modify their shipping address after placing an order.

All address changes must be handled manually by your support team.

This is especially useful for:

  • Reducing failed deliveries and returns.

  • Saving time for both customers and support teams.

  • Ensuring accurate, up-to-date shipping details.

Set editable address fields

Dependency rules (important) :

  1. You cannot allow State unless City & ZIP is enabled.

  2. You cannot allow Country unless State (and therefore City & ZIP) is enabled.

  3. This is by design so shipping zones and tax rules recalculate correctly.

Use these toggles to choose which parts of the shipping address customers can change after purchase.

Some fields depend on others, so if a box looks greyed out, turn on the required field first.

Fields & what they do:

  • Phone number – Lets customers correct the phone number stored with the shipping address (useful for carrier updates or delivery calls).

    • When checked: Phone can be edited.

    • When unchecked: Phone number stays locked.

  • City & ZIP/Postal code – The core locality controls. Turning this on unlocks deeper geography options.

    • When checked: City and ZIP can be edited, and it enables the State toggle.

    • When unchecked: State and Country can’t be enabled.

  • State/Province (depends on City & ZIP) – Lets customers change the state/region.

    • When checked: State can be edited and it enables the Country toggle.

    • When unchecked: Country can’t be enabled.

Country (depends on State) – Allows changing the destination country.

    • When checked: Country can be edited.

    • When unchecked: Country stays locked.

Troubleshooting & quick fixes

  • “I can’t enable State.” → First enable City & ZIP.

  • “I can’t enable Country.” → Enable City & ZIP, then State, then Country.

  • “Customers don’t see the edit option.” → Ensure Allow post‑order address edits is ON, the order is still within the edit window, and the order isn’t fulfilled or locked by other rules.

  • “Totals didn’t change after an address edit.” → Turn on Recalculate shipping fees and Enable tax recalculation in the same Address/Shipping settings so rates and taxes update automatically.

Customer experience:

On the Thank‑You/Order‑Status page, shoppers will see only the fields you’ve allowed. Edits apply immediately; with recalculation enabled, shipping and taxes refresh to match the new destination.

Smarter Address Input

This feature improves checkout accuracy and reduces delivery errors by offering real-time address suggestions as customers type.

  • When checked: Customers will see instant address suggestions, helping them quickly fill in accurate details and reducing the risk of typos or invalid addresses.

  • When unchecked: Customers must manually enter their full address, increasing the possibility of input mistakes and failed deliveries.

Why it’s useful:

  • Speeds up the checkout process.

  • Improves data accuracy for shipping.

  • Minimises customer service requests related to delivery failures.

Validate Customer Addresses

This feature ensures that shipping addresses entered or edited by your customers are accurate and deliverable — in real time.

  • When checked: As soon as a customer edits their shipping address, the system automatically checks it for accuracy and validity before saving changes. This reduces failed deliveries, shipping delays, and the need for manual corrections.

  • When unchecked: Customers can edit their address without any real-time validation. While this allows more flexibility, it may increase the risk of incorrect addresses and delivery issues.

Best Use Case:
Enable this feature if accurate shipping details are critical to your order fulfilment process, especially for time-sensitive or high-value shipments.

Recalculate Shipping

This setting ensures that shipping fees always reflect the latest order details — whether it’s due to a delivery address change or updates to the items in the order.

Dependency & Recommended Setup

  • If you want to enable shipping fee update on line item edits, then you must first enable recalculation of charges

  • These two options work independently, but enabling both ensures the most accurate shipping costs.

  • If you only enable address-based recalculation, shipping fees won’t update when products change.

    Uploaded image

  • For full accuracy and to avoid loss, it’s best to enable both.

1. Enable recalculation of charges

  • When checked: Shipping fees will automatically update if the customer changes their shipping address after placing the order.

Example: If the delivery address changes from New York to California, the system will recalculate the shipping fee based on the new location.

    Uploaded image

  • When unchecked: Shipping fees will remain the same, even if the delivery address changes — which could result in undercharging or overcharging for shipping.

2. Enable shipping fee update on line item edits

  • When checked: shipping fees will update whenever order items are added, removed, or changed.

Example: If a customer adds another heavy item to their order, the shipping cost will be recalculated to reflect the new total weight.

    Uploaded image

  • When unchecked: shipping costs remain the same regardless of changes in the items, which could cause discrepancies in actual shipping expenses.

Show split shipping in checkout

This setting controls whether customers can choose separate shipping methods for different parts of their order when products are shipped from multiple locations or shipping profiles.

When enabled, the checkout process will display each shipment separately, allowing customers to select a specific shipping method for each one.

  • When checked: If an order contains items that will be shipped from different fulfilment locations or shipping profiles, customers will see each shipment listed separately during checkout.

They can choose a different shipping method (e.g., standard, express) for each shipment.

Useful for merchants who fulfil from multiple warehouses or suppliers and want to give customers more flexibility.

  • When checked: Customers will only see one combined shipping method for the entire order. They will not have the option to choose separate methods per shipment.

This is simpler but less flexible, especially for multi-location fulfilment.

    Example Scenario:
    A customer orders a t-shirt from Warehouse A and a mug from Warehouse B.

    • Enabled: They can choose express shipping for the t-shirt and standard shipping for the mug.

    • Disabled: They must choose one shipping method that applies to both shipments.

Best For: Merchants with multiple fulfilment centres, dropshipping partners, or varied shipping timelines who want to optimise both speed and cost for the customer.

Change Shipping Method

This feature allows customers to upgrade their shipping method after placing an order, giving them the flexibility to receive their order sooner if they choose

  • When checked: Customers will have the option to select a faster shipping method after their order is placed. This is useful if a customer decides they need their order earlier than expected.

The system will recalculate any additional shipping fees for the upgrade.

  • When checked: Customers will not be able to change the shipping method after placing their order.

The originally selected shipping method will remain in place until the order is fulfilled.

Example: If a customer originally chose standard shipping but later wants express delivery, enabling this setting allows them to make the change directly without contacting your support team.

Recalculate Taxes

This setting ensures that your store automatically updates tax calculations whenever a customer makes changes to their order after it’s placed.

Why it’s useful:
Taxes can vary based on the order contents, shipping location, or even quantity. If a customer edits their order—like adding/removing products, changing shipping addresses, or updating product details—this feature recalculates tax eligibility instantly so the correct amount is charged.

How it works in practice:

  1. Customer makes an order edit (e.g., changes shipping address, adds an item, removes an item).

  2. The system automatically checks whether these changes impact tax rates.

  3. The final tax amount is updated in real-time, ensuring compliance with local regulations and accurate billing.

Example:
If a customer moves their shipping address from one state to another where the tax percentage is different, the tax will be recalculated to reflect the new rate—no manual work required.

Tip:
Enable this to prevent undercharging or overcharging taxes when order details change post-purchase.
