5. Cancellation Retention Rules

New feature to reduce order cancellations by showing incentives before a cancel is finalized.

Enable via Engagements → Cancellations → Retention.

Rule builder includes:

  • Offer types: Gift card, Free shipping, Free item, One-time use code, % discount, Store credit.

  • Eligibility: All customers, specific customers, or customer segments.

  • Redemption limits: Limit per customer or globally.

  • Conditions: Order amount, product, collection, shipping value, etc.

6. Variant Swap Restrictions

Merchants can now block specific variant attributes (e.g., prevent color swaps but allow size changes).

Configurable in Account Editor → Settings → Item edits → Swap restrictions.

Ideal for stores where variant pricing differs (e.g., colors priced differently).

7. Refund Handling

Auto Refund Setting: Automatically refund when orders are downgraded or canceled.

Option to disable for manual refund control.

Improved sync stability with third-party gateways.

8. Editing & Cancellation Controls

1. Dashboard – Legacy Account Warning

Added a new banner notification on the Dashboard for stores still using classic Shopify customer accounts.

The banner informs merchants that Shopify will phase out legacy accounts and encourages them to switch to the new customer accounts for full Account Editor compatibility.

Includes direct “Switch now” and “Learn why” actions for quick adoption.

2. Cancel & Refund Options – Store Credit Support

Introduced a new Store Credit option in the Cancel & Refund settings.

Merchants can now decide whether refunds go back to the original payment method or are converted into store credits.

Store credit stays within the store and can be applied to a customer’s future purchases, helping improve retention and repeat sales.

Available alongside existing options:

  • Refund to original payment method.

  • Trigger Shopify Flow for custom workflows.

3. UX Improvements

Updated help text and in-app tooltips to explain new refund and dashboard behaviors.

Improved consistency of toggle-based controls across Dashboard and Refund settings.
