ShipStation
Delay ShipStation order import for post-purchase edits
If you're using ShipStation, you can pause orders before they sync so customers can edit their orders in Account Editor.
ShipStation includes a built-in delay option — no Flow rules required.
How it works
When a customer places an order, Shopify creates it immediately. Normally, ShipStation would import that order right away and send it to your warehouse for fulfillment.
However, if your store allows post-purchase edits, you want customers to have enough time to update their order (for example, fix an address or change a product) before your fulfillment team starts processing it.
ShipStation includes a built-in setting called Minimum Order Age that lets you delay importing new orders for a set amount of time (such as 60 minutes).
Here’s what happens once this delay is enabled:
- Customer places an order
- Shopify creates the order immediately
- ShipStation waits until the delay time has passed (e.g., 60 minutes)
- During this waiting period, the order stays editable in Account Editor
- Once the delay expires, ShipStation imports the order during its next sync cycle
- The order now moves into your fulfillment workflow only after the edit window has ended
This ensures that your fulfillment team only receives finalized orders, helping reduce fulfillment mistakes, cancellations, and support workload
Step-by-Step Setup
Path inside ShipStation:
Settings → Selling Channels → Store Setup → Your Shopify Store → Edit Store Details
In General → Scroll to Shopify Connection Settings and Edit Shopify Settings:
Under Modify Marketplace Settings
Setting | Value |
|---|---|
Minimum order age before import | 60 minutes (or your edit window) |
Example
- Order placed: 10:00 AM
- Delay time: 60 mins
- Order imports around: 11:00–11:05 AM (next sync cycle)
Result
Orders won’t enter ShipStation or your WMS until your edit window expires — no manual steps required.
💡 Notes
- You can change the delay anytime
- Works perfectly with any editing window you set in Account Editor
