Market Targeting

What Market Targeting Does

The Market Targeting section lets you control where in the world an upsell offer appears.

If your Shopify store sells in multiple countries or uses Shopify Markets, this is where you choose which regions should see your offer.

By selecting specific markets, Account Editor automatically adjusts:

  • 💱 Currency displayed to the shopper
  • 💰 Taxes and duties based on local rules

🌐 Language and locale (if enabled through Localization)

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Open Market Targeting

Inside your Upsell Offer creation page, scroll to the panel titled Market Targeting.

You’ll see two fields:

  • Your markets — shows available Shopify Markets from your store.
  • Selected regions for this offer — lists markets you’ve already chosen.

2. Click Add → Select Markets

A modal window appears with your configured Shopify Markets (countries or regions).

You can scroll or use the search bar to find specific countries.

3. Choose One or More Regions

  • Tick the checkbox next to each country or region you want to include.
  • Click Done to save your selection.

The chosen regions now appear under Selected regions for this offer.

🧠 Tip: If you don’t select any market, the offer applies to all available markets by default.

How It Works in Practice

Let’s say your store serves five markets: US, UK, Canada, Germany, and Australia.

Run a holiday promo for US + Canada only

Offer appears only to those regions in local currency (USD / CAD)

Exclude Europe due to VAT rules

Leave “Germany” unchecked

Why Market Targeting Matters

  • 🌎 Localization accuracy: Shoppers see correct prices and taxes.
  • 💬 Relevant promos: Show different deals for different regions (e.g., Winter vs. Summer collections).
  • 🧾 Regulation compliance: Easily exclude markets with special tax rules.
  • 📊 Clearer analytics: Track performance by market to see where upsells convert best.

Real-World Example

A store selling skincare worldwide creates two offers:

  • “Winter Hydration Bundle” — shown only in cold-weather markets (Canada, UK, Germany).
  • “Summer SPF Add-On” — shown in hot regions (Australia, India, Brazil).

Each offer runs its own analytics, so the merchant can see where customers buy more seasonally relevant products.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Selecting a market that isn’t enabled in Shopify Markets → offer won’t appear.

❌ Forgetting to check currency conversion settings → discount values may look different in foreign currencies.

✅ Always preview the offer from each market to confirm pricing and language display correctly.
