Discount & Pricing
What Discount & Pricing Does
The Discount & Pricing section controls how your upsell products are priced.
Here you can decide whether to:
- Offer a discounted deal to drive quick conversions, or
- Keep original prices to position your offer as a premium add-on.
Account Editor automatically applies your discount when customers accept the offer — no need to create separate discount codes or duplicate products.

Step-by-Step Setup
1️⃣ Locate the Discount & Pricing Panel
Inside your upsell offer, scroll to the Discount & Pricing section. You’ll see:
- A discount percentage slider, and
- A strategy note below explaining how your chosen rate will display.
2️⃣ Choose Your Discount Percentage
Move the slider or enter a number (0–100 %) to decide how much of a discount to apply.
Goal | Recommended Range | Example |
|---|---|---|
Maintain premium positioning | 0 % (No discount) | “Add our Luxury Candle — exclusive offer” |
Balanced conversions | 10–15 % | “Add a charger and save 15 %” |
Clearance or seasonal sale | 20–40 % | “Get last season’s styles at 30 % off” |
🧠 Tip: Keep your discounts consistent with store-wide campaigns so customers don’t see conflicting offers.
3️⃣ Understand Discount Strategy Options
When you set a percentage, Account Editor automatically picks one of these strategies:
- No Discount: Shows full price — ideal for premium or limited-edition items.
- Moderate Discount (10–15 %): Creates urgency without cutting deeply into profit.
- Deep Discount (20 % +): Used for clearance, new-customer acquisition, or end-of-season pushes.
Each strategy recalculates the displayed price instantly inside the upsell widget.
4️⃣ Automatic Shopify Integration
Account Editor handles all technical parts for you:
- Creates a hidden Shopify discount code at runtime.
- Applies it only to the upsell product being accepted.
- Updates order totals and taxes automatically.
Works seamlessly across all surfaces (Checkout, Thank You, Order Status).

Real-World Examples
Store Type | Offer | Discount | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
Apparel | “Add matching socks” | 12 % | Lightweight incentive, 18 % conversion lift |
Beauty | “Upgrade to deluxe serum” | 0 % | Premium positioning, higher average order value |
Home & Decor | “Add gift wrapping” | 25 % | Quick add-on with clear savings |
Pro Tips
- 🧮 Stack smartly: Don’t combine multiple overlapping discounts; use one clear offer per order.
- 💬 Keep wording transparent: Use language like “Save 15 % when you add X” to set expectations.
- ⚙️ Test pricing levels: Use A/B Testing later to find the optimal discount percentage for your audience.
Common Mistakes
❌ Setting an unrealistic discount (e.g., 90 %) that causes confusion.
❌ Forgetting that rounding differences can appear in multi-currency stores.
✅ Always preview the offer to confirm the new subtotal before publishing.
Why It Matters
A good pricing strategy can lift conversion rates dramatically:
- Discounts under 15 % often perform best for established brands.
- No-discount offers work well for luxury positioning.
- Higher discounts are effective for first-time customers or slow-moving inventory.
